Eagle Eye: Relatives' Day
Relatives’ Day 2012-2013 was a great success here at Discovery School. Families were treated to vocal performances in English and Spanish, and also got to view great student artwork from all grade levels. In between performances, relatives visited classrooms, spoke with teachers, and participated in art and p.e. activities hosted by Mrs. Willow and Mrs. Henry. The day was capped off with a gourmet pizza lunch enjoyed outside courtesy of the wonderful spring weather.
This day showcased our outstanding specialty teachers and the work they have done this year. Thanks to Mrs. Willow (art), Mr. Spoon (band), Ms. Turner (choir), and Mrs. Bishop (Spanish) for their hard work to make Relatives’ Day a success, and to Mrs. Morando for helping out with the Spanish performances.

From the Front Office. . .
Please watch your child’s book bag for “Back to School” packets, which will go home with the youngest student of the family (one packet per family) on Thursday, May 24. Only one packet per family will be sent, and there is a $5.00 charge if the packet has to be replaced. The packet is sent home to all families that have re-enrolled for the fall.
We have the DVD’s from the Spring Concert in the main office available on first-come first-serve bases.

Taekwondo Takes Off at Discovery School!
We are very excited to be able to offer our students Taekwondo during the 2012-2013 school year, and students have been enjoying a sneak preview over the past few weeks. Our instructor, Chris Hershberger, is a Mansfield Native who has been practicing Taekwondo for 27 years, and is himself a 5th degree black belt and former two-time National Champion.
Chris explains Taekwondo as “A very dynamic martial art that teaches students to utilize the hands, feed, knees, legs, and elbows for practical self-defense.” He adds that, “due to the rigorous movements in Taekwondo, it is also a very beneficial form of exercise as balance, stamina, and flexibility are consistently developed.”
Our students in Taekwondo will also learn the Korean language with the goal of running the classes in Korean language only, further developing the mind as well as the body. Ask your student to demonstrate their Taekwondo moves for you!

« Completing all the online player registration at oysan.org (Ohio Youth Soccer Assoc. North)
« Collecting birth certificate copies, getting the coaches to do background checks and attend the mandatory coaches meeting, and turning payment in to the AYSA board (Appleseed Youth Soccer Assoc.)
If you are willing to take on this role, please contact the Discovery School front office as soon as possible!
